AID is a simple feedback model to create structure around feedback using an easy to remember acronym.

AID = Action, Impact, Desired change

Action:
What is the action or event that you want to discuss, use specific facts without interpretation.
– What is the scenario?
– What are the facts?
– What did you see?

Impact:
Describe the impact as a result of the action, use only facts and try to limit interpretation. This could be either a positive impact or negative impact but be specific.
– That was the impact?
– Who was affected?
– what is the evidence of the impact?

Desired Change:
Remember that you are trying to be constructive with your feedback, whether positive or negative make it count. Describe the change you would like to see in specific detail.
– What is the change you want to see?
– keep it specific and narrow, don’t try to boil the ocean.
– Make the desired change tangible and achievable

By using this model you can avoid the emotional regulation trap of accusation and assumption that can spiral a conversation away from fact and into emotion.
ADHD and other neurodivergent traits can cause havoc for emotional regulation in relationships, whether at work or in our personal lives. Simple tools can help keep things on track and constructive.

Lean logic and the ADHD brain

The process of Lean helps helps large and small companies identify the source of waste and take steps to eliminate it. By following this process we can find waste in our personal lives thanks to ADHD (hint: There is a lot of it). By eliminating waste and identifying root causes of ADHD symptom triggers we can reduce the impact on our lives by creating countermeasures to make life easier.

Lean is a broad technique that is designed for manufacturing and production processes, although it has industrial roots these logical steps can be utilised to improve the business of “You inc.”

Reducing waste:

  • Materials/Stuff – do you have old/broken/redundant items causing clutter in your life?
  • Money – Are you paying for things you don’t use?
  • Mistakes – Do you make mistakes that cost time or money?
  • Excess inventory – Do you have too much of something? taking up space and causing clutter?
  • Tools/Equipment – Do you have excess tools, equipment? single use kitchen tools that rarely get used etc.
  • People – Do you lean on people for certain tasks, using both your time and theirs?
  • Information – Is your information stored in a variety of places? DO you miss dates/bills/deadlines?
  • Improper work – Do you have the right tools for the job? are you wasting time/money making do with something less productive just because?
